Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) speak for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect and whose future home will be determined by a court of law. Volunteers embody the spirit of the program, and CASA’s goal is to provide each child a safe, permanent and nurturing home.
When home is no longer safe for a child, and the child must enter the foster care system, a judge may appoint a committed volunteer called a CASA Volunteer. CASA Volunteers are ordinary people from all walks of life, ages, and ethnic groups who are committed to doing what is best for a child in the foster care system. These volunteers get to know the child and gather information from everyone involved in their daily life, including:
- family members
- foster parents
- teachers
- doctors
- social workers
and other relevant persons, to report to the judge and advocate for the child’s needs while in the foster care system. As a volunteer, you commit to represent a child’s best interests while they are in care. The CASA Volunteer stands beside the child throughout their journey to provide stability, love, and hope and help guide the child to a safe and permanent home.
